Walkathon 2009: Saturday, October 10
The longer days and warmer weather signal more than the coming of spring for the families at Booksin Elementary.
This is also the time of year that we typically begin planning for our largest fundraiser of the year—Walkathon, scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2009.
Walkathon is More Important Than Ever
This year, more than ever, Walkathon will play a critical role in maintaining programs that impact our students and teachers at Booksin Elementary. State Budget Cuts will force San Jose Unified to make difficult decisions that will potentially eliminate staffing and services for the children at our school. Compounding the budget cuts is the reality that fundraising in the current economic environment will be challenging—but absolutely vital—if we are to keep the programs like science, music and Art-Vistas that have enriched our children’s learning experience in past years. It is Walkathon that has allowed BESCA to fund these enrichment programs, along with library books, computers and technology support, classroom supplies, and field trips.
